Pointing a cell phone at a partial eclipse

What happens when you point a cell phone at a partial eclipse? I expected a whole bunch of sensor saturation and not much to show for it. What I got was something else.

Partial eclipse

Shooting over my shoulder, I got some rooflines, the sun and its expected huge sensor-swamping self. But then, off to the side, there's some weird internal reflection or something showing the actual eclipse, just like what I saw by looking into my shoebox-with-a-pinhole projector.

Finally, there's a plane. Totally a lucky shot.
